| PHIL LESH TO APPEAR AT BAY AREA BLOOD BANKS Transplant Recipient Promotes the Urgent Need for Blood and Organ Donations Phil Lesh, former bassist for the Grateful Dead and liver transplant recipient, will be appearing at three Bay Area blood banks to promote blood donations as the critical link in organ transplant surgeries. In December of 1998, Phil Lesh received a life-saving liver transplant and used several pints of blood. Phil Lesh will appear at Blood Centers of the Pacific's (BCP) Marin Donor Site in San Rafael on Saturday, December 9th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, The American Red Cross Blood Center in Oakland on Saturday December 16th from 12:00pm-3:00pm, and at BCPís Irwin Center in San Francisco on Saturday, December 23rd from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Lesh will distribute autographed posters to blood donors. Fans will also be able to complete organ donation cards. Last January, Bay Area blood supplies were so low that surgeries had to be canceled and organ transplant centers put on alert that there may not be enough blood to support a transplant procedure. This year, blood supplies are again expected to dip as the holiday season approaches. So we urge everyone during the holiday season to give the gift of life. | December 25, 2000 Dear Friends, As another year comes to a close, we'd like to thank everyone that donated blood these past three weekends: at the Blood Centers of the Pacific in Marin and San Francisco, and at the American Red Cross Blood Center in Oakland. It was a pleasure to meet all of you that turned out. These blood drives will continue to run through January 15, 2001. We urge all to visit their local community blood centers to donate blood and to complete organ donor cards during this critical season. We are also planning a national blood and organ donor drive shortly so please visit our website at www.phillesh.net for updates. So much has happened during the past two years since Phil's recovery; even so, we pause every day to offer thanks for the gift of life given so generously by another human being.
